The Argentine Football Association has announced that every match across its men’s and women’s competitions on the next matchday will stop in the 10th minute to honour Lionel Messi

The stoppage will last for one minute and will feature a round of applause in recognition of Messi’s outstanding career with the Argentina national team. The AFA said the tribute recognises the legacy of the Argentina captain and his contribution to the national team over the years.

“Every game will stop in the 10th minute for a minute of applause in recognition of Lionel Messi’s career with the Argentina national team,” the Argentina FA said.

The choice of the 10th minute is a symbolic reference to Messi’s famous No. 10 shirt, which he has worn throughout his international career.

Messi has enjoyed a historic career with Argentina, leading the national team to major international honours and establishing himself as one of the greatest players in the country’s football history.

The tribute will take place across both men’s and women’s competitions, allowing supporters throughout Argentina to join in celebrating Messi’s achievements. The one-minute applause is expected to create a special moment inside stadiums across the country as Argentine football comes together to recognise the career and legacy of its iconic No. 10.

BetCompare had reported that Messi had announced his retirement from the Argentina national team, saying he has “nothing more to give” after a 20-year international career.
