Chelsea sign Delap for £30m

Chelsea Football Club has confirmed the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town in a deal worth £30 million

The England Under-21 striker has penned a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until June 2031.

Delap, 22, chose Chelsea ahead of more than six offers this summer after an impressive Premier League season with Ipswich, in which he scored 12 goals and was shortlisted for the Young Player of the Year award.

In a statement on the club’s official website, Delap said, “I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it is on with these players and the head coach. It’s going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies.”

Delap began his career at Derby County’s academy before moving to Manchester City in 2019. There, he played under current Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca in the Elite Development Squad and made a strong impression, scoring 24 goals in 20 Premier League 2 games.

He made his senior debut for City in the League Cup and featured in the Premier League before going out on loan to Stoke City, Preston North End, and Hull City.

He joined Ipswich Town for the 2024/25 season and made 37 appearances.

Delap has also been a regular presence in England’s youth setups, most recently appearing for the Under-21s in March.
