Spain open their tournament against Cape Verde. Uruguay brings deep historical tournament pedigree. Spain and Uruguay have the history and edge to qualify

2010 champions Spain and two-time winners Uruguay are heavy favorites, facing a dangerous Saudi Arabia and debutants Cabo Verde.

Spain will be competing at their 17th FIFA World Cup, famously winning the tournament in 2010. The European nation was present at the last tournament in Qatar.

Cabo Verde will be competing at their very first World Cup, making a fairytale debut for the small African island nation.

Saudi Arabia will be competing in their seventh World Cup, looking to replicate their famous group-stage opening shock against Argentina from the last tournament in Qatar. Their best finish was a Round of 16 run in 1994.

Uruguay will be playing at their 15th FIFA World Cup, aiming to reclaim old glory from their two tournament wins in 1930 and 1950. The South American side also featured in Qatar.

The favorites to finish top two in this group are Spain and Uruguay, while Saudi Arabia may qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.

Groups A to L feature a mix of traditional heavyweights, historic rivalries, and four tournament debutants. Under the expanded 48-team format, the top two teams from each group plus the eight best third-place finishers will advance to the Round of 32.
