Only 21 Liverpool players are guaranteed medals…for now

Liverpool won their 20th Premier League title, levelling with arch rivals Manchester United, but not all players are guaranteed medals, for now, while others like Federico Chiesa is one match away from securing his medal too.

Arne Slot has done the unthinkable and secured a Premier League title for Liverpool in his first season at the club. The Reds have dominated the division from the outset and will lift the top-flight trophy for the first time in five years.

And soon it will be time for Liverpool to decide who will be adorned with a Premier League winners medal. They can be distributed among the management team, players and club officials - however the victorious team sees fit.

Only 40 silver medals will be provided to the Anfield giants with some tough decisions on the horizon. Any player who has made at least five Premier League appearances during 2024/25 will be automatically entitled to one.

Liverpool have 21 members of their squad who currently fit that criteria, while Federico Chiesa is one game short having made four substitute appearances - and he still has time to earn enough appearances to get a medal. For now, that leaves 19 medals for the club to dish out to other squad members and staff if desired.

Additional medals can be sought. They require the consent of the Premier League Board however, and will only be granted if more than 39 players have fulfilled the five Premier League appearances criteria.

Vitezslav Jaros and Jayden Danns are the only other players to have made outings in the top-flight this season. With just one substitute appearance each they will not automatically qualify.

Jaros would have to overcome competition from Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher. Danns meanwhile is on loan at Sunderland, though injury has prevented him making an appearances as they prepare for the play-offs.

Tyler Morton was included in Liverpool's Premier League squad at the start of the season, but his five appearances have all come in cup competitions. James McConnell and Trey Nyoni have also recorded four and five appearances respectively this term, but none of those have been in the Premier League.
