Nottingham Forest have confirmed the dismissal of Head Coach, Nuno Espírito Santo, bringing an end to his spell at The City Ground after weeks of reported tension between both parties

The club, in a statement on Monday, said Nuno was relieved of his duties “following recent circumstances,” while expressing gratitude for his contribution during what it described as a successful era.

The statement read, “The Club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at The City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the Club. As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey.”

Football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, also confirmed the development, noting that the decision followed rising tensions in recent weeks.

He said, “Decision made after tension between the parties in the recent weeks, it’s over for Nuno at #NFFC, as @Record_Portugal reports.”

He added that three candidates were under consideration for the job, with Tottenham Hotspur’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, named among them.

Nuno, who was appointed Forest boss in December 2023, guided the club through a dramatic survival battle in the Premier League before overseeing one of their most memorable seasons in 2024/25.

The Portuguese coach first made his name at Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he secured promotion from the Championship in 2018 and established the club in the Premier League with successive top-half finishes.

He later had a brief stint at Tottenham Hotspur before moving to Saudi Arabia to manage Al-Ittihad.

Forest’s board is expected to make a swift decision on a replacement as the club looks to steady its campaign amid growing pressure in the league.
