Defending world champions Argentina and African titans Algeria are favorites, facing a competitive Austria and tournament debutants Jordan.

Argentina will be competing at their 19th FIFA World Cup, entering as the reigning holders after winning their third title at the last tournament in Qatar.

Jordan will be competing at their very first World Cup, breaking new boundaries for Middle Eastern football.

Algeria will be competing in their fifth World Cup, returning to the global tournament for the first time since 2014, where they achieved their best-ever Round of 16 finish.

Austria will be playing at their eighth FIFA World Cup, marking an end to a 28-year absence since they last competed in 1998. Their best run at the tournament was a brilliant third-place finish in 1954.

The favorites to finish top two in this group are Argentina and Algeria, while Austria may qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.

Groups A to L feature a mix of traditional heavyweights, historic rivalries, and four tournament debutants. Under the expanded 48-team format, the top two teams from each group plus the eight best third-place finishers will advance to the Round of 32.
