2022 · Qatar

Rossi's extraordinary redemption Final: Italy 3–1 W. Germany

Perhaps the greatest World Cup final ever played. Argentina led 2-0 with 10 minutes remaining before Kylian Mbappé scored twice in 90 seconds to force extra time — then scored a third in the additional period. Messi replied to make it 3-3. In the penalty shootout, Gonzalo Montiel's winning spot-kick triggered scenes of national celebration that rivalled any in South American sporting history.
